Application: High Precision EDM Electrode Fabrication made from Carbone EDM/nuclear grade graphite

Setup:
Machine: Flashcut 7300, servo motors with tuned PID control, automatic tool changer, Rotary-axis, 500W 30,000RPM high speed spindle
CAD: SolidWorks 2007
CAM: Deskproto 4.1
Exhaust: High CFM vacuum system with HEPA filtering and customized nozzle
Tooling: Tungsten carbide coated HSS, and polycrystalline diamond-coated tungsten carbide from McMaster Carr


Georgia Tech needed a precision machine with sophisticated controls to do their cutting edge research for the US Air Force. The FlashCut CNC 7300 with the tool changing spindle and 4th Axis rotary table fit the task perfectly. Here is a photo of one of their high precision electrodes that they are able to fabricate directly in their lab.
